Chew Toys For Puppies on Their Teething Stage Development
If you’ve cared for a baby, you know how uncomfortable teething can be. The same goes for a teething puppy. During this stage, a puppy would chew things more intently. He’ll even chew on things that puppies usually pass up on. You can help your puppy through this stage of development by providing him the best chew toys for teething puppies.
It’s perfectly reasonable for teething puppies to chew on things they can get their hands on. Puppies will chew anything because of their innate curiosity; it is one way for them to explore their environment. Chewing on things can also help relieve pain associated with teething.
And even when they grow up, dogs would still chew from time to time. Chewing is normal in dogs because it helps them clean their teeth. It also promotes dental health while keeping their muscles around the jaws strong. Dogs also chew on anything to alleviate boredom and soothe anxiety.
Since it is in their nature to chew on anything they can reach to, teething puppies can wreak havoc in your household. They could chew on your favorite pair of leather shoes, a chair, and even your couch pillows. That’s why it is essential to give your puppy a teething toy that can stand up to his chewing.
Things to Consider in Choosing a Chewing Toy for Puppies
In choosing a chewing toy, keep in mind the following factors:
- You do want a chewing toy that can stand up to your puppy’s chewing; but not too hard to break his teeth. One way to determine this is to apply the thumbnail test. Press the toy with your thumbnail. If it gives a little bit, then it’s safe for your puppy.
- It should be free from the coating of flavorings that can lead to digestive problems like an upset stomach.
- Shape/size. The toy shouldn’t be too small for your puppy to choke on it.
- It should be safe enough to be washed in the washing machine or dishwasher.
- The toy should be entertaining enough for your puppy to chew it.
The 5 Best Chew Toys for Teething Puppies
We’ll make it easy for you to shop for a chewing toy for your teething puppy. Below are the five best chew toys for puppies you can choose from:
Kong Classic Dog Toy
One of the top-rated chew toys for teething puppies, the Kong Classic Dog Toy is known for being durable and appealing for most puppies. Its smooth texture and irregular, cone shape make it very intriguing for puppies. It’s hard for most puppies to pin it down, thus challenging them to a game of chase. The hollow center can be filled with treats to entice puppies further.
This dog toy comes in various sizes, but you could get the smaller sizes if you are to give it to your puppy.

I bought this product for my 30 pounds, a 5-month-old puppy who has severe separation anxiety when we put him in his cage while we are gone. I got this product so that I could fill it with treats and peanut butter to give to him when he has to be caged. Before he would cry immediately after being put in his cage and now I am at least able to leave the house and know that he is entertained for 30 minutes. The product is durable and he has not been able to destroy it or even leave a mark on it. Would recommend for big chewers.
Nylabone Power Chew DuraChew
Like the Kong Classic Dog Toy, this teething puppy chew toy is durable and long lasting. You won’t have to worry about your puppy breaking this toy into pieces and swallowing smaller parts.
It also contains meaty juices thus making it more intriguing or appealing to dogs. It is made from virgin nylon and designed to satisfy even the most aggressive chewing puppy. This dog toy will also keep your canine friend entertained for hours because it has textured ends and action ridges.
It comes in three sizes but we would recommend you get the petite size measuring 3 inches long.

My dog loves this bone! We are on our second super double bacon bone. The first one has been around for 8 months of daily non-stop chewing. Amazingly it is not actually destroyed but instead so rough from chewing that I have stepped on it in the night and walked away with a bloody toe. I figured it was time to replace it and maybe keep the thoroughly used one around as a reserve in case my dog loses her most beloved possession of all time!
Benebone Real Flavor Wishbone Dog Chew Toy
This dog chew toy has flavors known to be appealing to our canine pals such as bacon, peanut, and chicken. You can choose from any of those flavors.
It has a patented wishbone design that is also of interest to dogs. The toy’s design also enables dogs to hold it down using their paws.
It is made of nylon which is a material known for being tough. Simply put, this chew toy should be able to endure even the most aggressive chewer.

The best way to describe Benebone Jumbo Chew is to think about all the toys and bones you have purchased for your dog. Many of these toys aren’t touched each day, let alone for over a week. Your dog gets bored. However, with the Benebone Jumbo Chew, your dog will be chewing on this bone not only each day but numerous times each day. My Golden Retriever is 9 months, weighs between 65 and 70lbs and has been chewing on this for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I hope that the Benebone Company comes out with new flavors in Jumbo or Mega Jumbo (new bigger size..hint, hint) so that all dogs can enjoy this wonderful treat in more flavors. I’m attaching a front and back picture of the Benebone Jumbo Chew as it looks today…and the first day my Golden Retriever received the Benebone Jumbo Chew.
Tuffy Ultimate Dog Toy
This vet-approved dog toy has a unique design that would remind you of a Frisbee. It is ideal for playing a game of fetch with your dog. The toy also rotates in and out and should keep your canine pal busy and interested. This chew toy is made from plastic and indestructible for most puppies.

It’s huge! I like that it’s big but again this toy didn’t last that long with the neighbors’ dog. I wanted something to play tug-a-war with him so this was perfect but like the other Tuffy Ultimate items I have bought, he has chewed right through it. He is an adult black lab and loves to chew. There’s no stuffing left in this but we are still able to play with it so it’s still a toy for him and he loves it. Can’t someone make something tough, fun and lasting that’s not plastic for chewing dogs.
N-Bone Puppy Teething Ring
Last but not the least is this ring chewing toy from N-Bone. It has chicken and pumpkins flavoring making it very appealing or appetizing for most puppies. Because it is of a ring design, there are no edges which at times can be dangerous for puppies.
This chewing toy is also lightweight and comfortable for puppies to carry around. It is also low in fat thus it should not ruin your puppy’s diet.

This is the only teething ring I trust for my Lhasapoo. Not every dog is the same, but my dog has been chewing on this teething ring since he was a puppy. It’s great and pumpkin is his favorite flavor. I honestly can’t complain. I’ve tried many other chews for my dog and he always gets gastro issues, but never for this product. Overall, every breed is different depending on the genetic makeup of the dog. This by far has been great for my dog. He is a small dog breed who weighs roughly about 13 to15 lbs.
